It really seems to me that a lot of Democratic constituents have willed themselves to forget what just happened the last four years leading up to, during, and immediately after the election. Perhaps we just haven’t taken the time to consider it critically, despite all the election autopsies. Please know that I write this as someone who has always voted Democrat, who spent a great deal of their own time, money, and energy on campaigning for Biden and Harris. I also spent a great deal of time explaining the existential threat of Project 2025 and the fascist plan that we are currently seeing unfold.
The problem comes when we begin acting off of a false premise, so that every conclusion and suggested solution is inherently flawed by that faulty foundation. I will vote for a Democrat if I have no other choice, but I don’t think they will bring real change anymore than they have in the last 50 years. To be sure, they’ve given the people some minor concessions, but they’ve never actually stuck their neck out to end the exploitation that is killing us and our planet. Biden was a decent president for a normal time, but we’re not living in normal times. What the Democrats refused to do shows the corruption of the party and there is one glaring flaw in the idea that we, the people, can reform that party.
So what happened? To be concise, the Democrats refused to rally to prevent an illegitimate candidate and traitor from seizing power, even after he (and the ones enabling him) made their plans to demolish our nation overwhelmingly clear. They refused to enact the 14th amendment to prevent his candidacy on the grounds of insurrection—there was one half-hearted attempt in 2021, despite the fact that we VOTED them a trifecta, and one that never had a chance in 2023. For four years, they refused to rally to stand against voter suppression and election interference the likes of which we have not seen since the era of Jim Crow. Furthermore, Biden refused to use his executive power to protect our nation from a known enemy during a crisis.
This is the entire reason that we have the Executive in the first place; to make difficult decisions during a crisis when there is not time for either legislation or litigation. After the crisis has been dealt with, we can go back and look at the laws and policies that should be enacted or changed in order to protect against it in the future. Trump was not only a felon and an insurrectionist, he was a known traitor. He violated the espionage act in a flagrant display that was a nuclear bomb of a security breach. He violated the Logan Act multiple times in dealing with Putin and Netanyahu as a civilian (likely others as well). Biden himself warned that Trump would be a dictator...then welcomed him into the White House and shook his hand.
Biden and Harris both knew full well that their refusal to champion the people against neoliberal exploitation was harming the cause. Instead, Democrats tried to gaslight the people and tell them the economy was doing great. People who can’t afford to pay rent and buy groceries at the same time don’t give a crap how the stock market is doing. They knew full well that refusing to denounce the genocidal maniac Netanyahu was seriously harming the cause. They gave excuse after excuse for his behavior, even when the State Department committed fraud by lying on federal documents to give Israel weapons in clear violation of our own laws. They even defied the UN and ICC when they rightfully condemned the most well documented human rights violations in history.
All of that is bad enough and one could argue that it would take either monumental stupidity or monumental selfishness to continue on that path, but there’s one final failure that tells me that it was all on purpose. Before the election even took place, computer science experts wrote an open letter to Harris explaining that the data breach of election software in both Colorado and Georgia was a severe security risk, even according to the words of the software companies themselves. After the election, that same group once more wrote that this was an even greater concern, looking at the results, and that it needed a federal investigation (state investigations were under way, who knows if they still are). After that letter, Mr. Spoonamore, a Republican official, wrote his own letter, agreeing with the first two and adding new evidence that he had found. He had done the math on the publicly available data and cited clear evidence of fraud concerning the bullet ballots in the swing states.
A bullet ballot is where the person only votes for the president and none of the other offices on the ballot. Typically, these number much less than 1% of all ballots and that’s what we saw in 43 states during the November election. In seven states (guess which ones) these numbers were extremely, abnormally high; over 5% in ALL seven swing states and ONLY for Trump. This is how Trump managed a feat not done since Ronald Reagan in “winning” all seven swing states. So not only did we have massive voter suppression through laws in clear violation of the civil rights act, purging registrations, removing poll locations and ballot boxes. Not only did we have election interference with not sending out mail ballots, rejecting mail ballots on signature match and postage. Not only did we have foreign interference through bomb threats, but we had clear evidence of real actual fraud. Their every accusation has always been an admission.
Evidence that Harris and her campaign team should have already seen; that the President and VP and DOJ and FBI should have already known about. Hell, Trump got up on stage and bragged that they won in PA because “Elon really knows those vote counting computers.” I’m sorry, what? Am I living in Cloud-Kookoo-Land where a known felon can admit to election fraud on stage and the sitting President of the United States does nothing? Harris received those letters on information that she should have already had and refused to even call for a recount—the one thing that the experts agreed would prove whether or not there was actual fraud.
You can’t tell me that they were ignorant or stupid. Biden, Harris, and the rest of the Democratic leadership knew exactly what they were doing. Therefore, it must have been on purpose. They wanted to hand our nation over to fascists. Whether through fear or complicity or because our fraudulent financial system was about to collapse anyway and they wanted a scapegoat, I don’t know. I just know what my eyes and ears tell me. So if 50 years of failure—of crying that they have no power when Republicans are in charge and claiming they can’t get past their obstruction when Democrats are in charge—is not enough to convince you that the Democrats aren’t on our side, how about knowingly capitulating to fascists?
Now, the final issue; reforming the Democratic party. There’s a common wisdom about being “unequally yoked” that I want to touch on. The idea is that even if you have a strong ox pulling your wagon, if they’re yoked to a weak one, they’re not going to get far—the weak one will always hold the strong one back. Same idea as the “weakest link in the chain.” You can get progressives into the party; you can support good representatives like AOC, Crockett, Raskin, Omar, but at the end of the day they’re all still yoked to that same weak ox that refuses to move. Not only that, but as we’ve seen with AOC and her squad, they will actively be undermined and abandoned to enemies like AIPAC that will remove them from office if they refuse to fall in line.
So then, I will vote for a Democrat if I have no other choice, but I will do so with mourning, knowing that no freedom will ever come from it. The party is corrupt. They continue to roll over and bare their throats to the wolves. In order to truly reform it, we would need a revolution among the 90 million eligible voters who don’t participate, but they refuse to do so because they see the corruption too (and massive disinformation networks that the Democrats also refuse to do anything about). The only way forward that I can see—the only path to true, meaningful change—is with a new party. I’m just one old, disabled, keyboard warrior, but if I’m really the only one willing to step out and take a leap of faith with a new hope, then I’ll try. My hope in writing this, however, is that those who are more able, with more resources and experience, can finally see the writing on the wall of the Democratic party;
“You have been weighed and found wanting.”
fuck democrats.
fuck all politicians
